It was Christmas 2008 when I thought of putting up this blog for the Comia clan. Realizing the role of technological advancement to bridge the distance that sets us all apart, the blog will be a great way to connect. Let's face it, not everyone has a Facebook or a Twitter account and unless you have a special account that only includes blood relatives, you will be lost in the tons of news f eed that gets posted to your account everyday.
For those with Facebook accounts, I still hope you drop by here more often and update us. Send your pics or updates and it will be posted here.

Sacrifice Sale

I Fondly Remember
35 years ago today, we lost our beloved Ama to heart failure. I was 11 years old then, it was a few days before our periodical exams in Grade 5, I can still vividly remember. If Ina and my siblings were grief-stricken by his passing, I was devastated. I was a certified Daddy's Girl.
As the youngest in the family, Ama gave me everything I asked for, most of the time, to the chagrin of my siblings. I was spared from the rod, nobody dared fight me, lest they will be condemned for it. When others didn't know what signature clothing was, I, at a very young age, was shopping in Ci
nderella. When my cousins Tess and Rosie took up piano lessons, Ama bought a Grotrian Steinweg piano so I can take my lessons too. I was given the best....always....by Ama.
I remember when I want to ask for something and I cannot say it directly to him, I would write a short note, tuck it on one of his slippers while he is asleep. As soon as he wakes up, that was the first thing he would see before he gets out of bed. And then, presto, I will get what I want. The trick never failed.
As I grew up without him, I was never deprived of the love, only of the luxury he used to shower me. Ina and my siblings, were always there to provide for me, the basics and a little more.
When I got married, the life of a princess I used to live, turned into a life filled with tough luck as I shouldered most of the responsibilities of the married life. As Ate Sylvia described my life, I was "prinsesang naging basahan". I managed to get out of that marriage and tried very hard to raise my children.
Things would have been fine until the job I held was came to an end at the onset of the global recession. I never got a well paying job since and my children had to work to augment the family income. As a parent, I know education is the only thing I could give my children. But at this point, no matter how painful it is for me as a mother, education and school has to wait.
Today, on Ama's 35th death anniversary, I fondly remember him. As before, I call on him whenever I am placed in a difficult situation in life. Last night, I talked to him again, asking him to ask our Heavenly Father for the one thing I had been praying for the last 20 months, that is the opportunity to move to another country to start anew.
I know Ama will never let down his bunso. I believe he will help me get what I want as he used to do. All these because Ama loves me until this time.
I love you Ama and I miss you po.

Help for Angel Comia Manalese
ENGLISH VERSION
Angel is my 17 year old niece, currently freshman at Lyceum of Batangas (Philippines) taking up Accountancy. She is the youngest daughter of my sister, Carmen, who passed away last year due to cerebral aneurysm. Angel was born premature at 6 months because my sister suffered enclampsia then. Even if there were some defects brought about by her premature birth (she stayed in the incubator for 3 months), she tried to live a normal life.
Recently, due to severe cough and colds, she was brought to the doctor for a check up because she can barely hear. The doctor diagnosed her hearing condition as severe and needs to have a pair of hearing aid badly and urgently, or she might lose her hearing eventually (this is another effect of her premature birth). When the doctor tried on her the hearing aid, Angel was both overjoyed and thrilled because she could hear even the faintest of sounds which she never experienced in the past.
My 79 year old mom, who acts as her guardian since my sister's death, could only cry when she learned that the pair of hearing aid costs USD 1,200 excluding doctor's fees for her treatment. My mom has no income and incapable to raise the money to buy Angel the hearing aid she needs. Our family is not financially well off and we could only pray to God to send the people to help us raise the amount for Angel.
We realized that there are people around the world who can be very generous to extend help. In fact, the internet was also a big help for us to raise the money to pay off part of the hospital bills of my sister Carmen, when she was confined for 3 months in the hospital about 2 years ago ,after she suffered cerebral aneurysm. So we thought of utilizing technology again to send out our request for donations and support for Angel.

Any donation, no matter how small will go a long, long way to help Angel. Our family, can only say a prayer of thanks to all generous hearts who have extended their help.

Sa ngayon po, halos di na makarinig ang isang tenga ni Angel. Ang kabilang tenga ay mahina na din. Sabi ng doctor na kelangan na ng hearing aid (condition: severe). Walang paglagyan ng tuwa ang bata habang nakasuot ng hearing aid na pinasubok sa kanya sa isang clinic. Pero, iyak na lang ang nagawa ng Nanay Fabing, dahil 56,000 pesos (28k each) daw ang halaga ng hearing aid. Gustuhin man ng isang mapagmahal na lola na ibigay ang makakabuti at makakatulong sa kanyang apo, wala syang magawa. Iisa lang ang nararamdaman namin, kasama ng mga pinsan, na walang kakayahan na makatulong pampinansyal, ang gumawa ng paraan sa abot ng makakaya. Angel has been under the guardianship of Nanay Fabing since Ate Carmen passed away last year.
